The Children's Zoo, where you can (if you'd like) pet some of the animals such as these adorable guinea pigs.

The penguin house is a great place to escape the heat and humidity. It's a chilly 45 degrees all year long.
We actually didn't see too many animals. I'm convinced that most of the animals were in their air conditioned cages looking out at the humans and thinking how ridiculous we were for being out in the heat.
They tried to trick us, but we realized those weren't REAL grapes!

The zoo also offers a train ride around the park for just $5!
For lunch we headed to Fritanga for some authentic Nicaraguan food. Here's some "artwork". I thought it was creepy.

And dessert----Ted Drewes! Believe it or not, I had never been to Ted Drewes. I guess I was never a true St. Louisan.
Now, let me explain how the ordering process goes so if you go you won't look like an idiot and get glared at by those who know how the process goes.
First, you look at this very large and hard to miss menu board and make up your mind about what you would like to order. Second, you go to one of the open windows, tell them your order and pay and third step to the right and wait for them to call out your completed order.

Mary and I both chose to order sundaes. They do offer "concretes" that they will turn upside down and show to you that the frozen custard will not fall out of the cup. Amazing. Delicious.
